Vintage Military - Named IDed World War One Military Uniform Garment Bag Heavy Canvas Name & Unit On Bag Fantastic Patina

A WWI attic find from Monmouth, Maine, this antique clothes roll had belonged to Capt. W.L. Beaman, Co. B, 4th US Pioneer Infantry. The smaller front pouch is personalized with hand painted lettering. This circa 1918 military issue garment bag is made of a heavyweight cotton canvas fabric and designed with several tie pockets and pouches that would have compactly stored the soldier's clothing essentials. A wooden dowel is sewn at the top around which an exquisite worn leather handle is looped through a pair of brass grommets and affixed with copper rivets. As expected, the front side has seen more wear and soiling than the inside due to the fact that the portable bag would have been rolled up to protect its contents. A similar example is in the permanent collection of the San Mateo County Historical Association, Redwood City, CA. A moving remnant of one soldier's dedication to freedom through service and sacrifice.

Being offered in as found condition. Untouched original surface. A few holes in fabric.
